Impeaching Ekweremadu Will Worsen N’Assembly Crisis, Says Sani

Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna-Central senatorial district, said that the impeachment of the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, will deepen   the crisis rocking the National Assembly and impede the operations of the executive arm of government.

 

Sani, who was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, said although he didn’t vote for Ekweremadu, the plan to remove him was not the solution to the crisis rocking the National Assembly.

 

The senator said this during an interview with Sahara TV on Monday.

 

Sani said,

“We have to tell ourselves the truth. We are in a difficult situation. The fact that we have a deputy senate president from the PDP is a better alternative to the election of a senate president from the PDP because we could have had that on June 9.

“If we remove Ekweremadu and replace him with an APC senator, the PDP in the senate would be a potent opposition that would continue to oppose anything that the executive arm presents.

“Now that the APC senators are not united, and when you have a PDP as a force to confront, that would be an additional problem. Now, Ekweremadu is the subject matter. Ekweremadu is being seen as representing a power equation in the sharing of power in the country. Therefore, removing Ekweremadu will create more problems than the solutions which we are saying it would create.

As the 8th Senate resumes on July 28, Sani advised his colleagues to focus on providing good governance to Nigerians.

Well, it’s the age of fake social media accounts and Nigerian celebrities are the worst hit when you put together a roll call of victims.

With the fake Twitter account of late Muna Obiekwe and atrocities committed by the impostor still lingering in the minds of Nigerians, another case has just been reported. Even worse, this time, it didn’t even happen on social media.

Daily Independent reports that a Lagos politician and managing director of Lagos-based travel agency, Aeroland Travels, Segun Adewale popularly known as Aeroland, has been duped of 500k.

The report says Adewale, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Lagos West in the forthcoming 2015 election, lost half a million Naira to someone posing as Mavin first lady, Tiwa Savage.

Having declared his intention to run for Senate in 2015 again and obtaining his party’s nomination form in November 2014, Segun Adewale reportedly contacted the fake ‘Tiwa Savage’ to perform at his political declaration party.

The politician was however disappointed when the ‘Kelekele Love‘ singer did not show up at the event.

Presently, Segun Adewale is banking on the financial institution through which the money was paid to help get what is left of the amount as a withdrawal has already been made on the beneficiary account.

As a result of the current intense political atmosphere in Nigeria with its associated unethical campaigns and rivalry between PDP and APC, Comedian Bovi has urged Nigerians to ”save the insults and bickering” because ”in politics, there is no permanent friend and no permanent enemy”.

In a statement released on his IG page ,he said as for him and his family,they will vote for president Jonathan.

Singe 9ice aka Abolore Akande has petitioned his party the APC to declare the primaries election held on Sunday in Ogbomosho,null and void.The singer was not happy with the way things were carried out at the election and stated it did not make for a free and fair election.

I Abolore Adegbola Akande an aspirant under All Progressive Congress party contest against the inconclusive primary election that was carried out at Soun Stadium in Ogbomosho North L.G.A. Area of Oyo State.

There were no ballot boxes, the electoral officers came to the venue 5:45pm same time an aspirant (Oye Oyewunmi) arrived at the  venue, there were no delegate passes, there was no accreditation,

 

Ogbomosho North Local Government Delegates were not allowed to vote and just two local government participates during the election, Orire local government and Ogbomosho south local government, the election was carried out without preparation for lights and other necessaries to ensure smooth election at night.

I am using this medium to appeal to the appeal committee to render this election null and void with immediate effect, also another date and different venue outside the town should be schedule for a proper and free and fair election at a later date.

APC Primaries Result Is Out! Desmond Elliot Wins, Kenny Saint Brown Loses

He just won the All Progressive Congress(APC) ticket to contest for the Lagos House Of Representatives where he will represent the people of Surulere in the coming elections in 2015.

We learnt that the other aspirants stepped down for him. The primary was peaceful at all the venues monitored by our correspondent except in Surulere where there was tension because Nollywood star, Desmond Elliot, was said to have been favoured against the incumbent and two-term member of the House, Kabiru Lawal.

It is being alleged that Elliot is ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s candidate.

It was also gathered that Lawal will be compensated with the chairmanship position of Surulere Local Government.

Kenny Saint Best lost out to Lai Mohammed’s son, Folajimi Lai Mohammed for the Ikeja constituency.

Fashola Has Been Ruled Out As APC Vice Presidential Candidate

The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has been ruled out as a running mate to whoever emerges as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress at the convention in December.

A highly placed source in the party, who spoke with Punch on the matter, said that Fashola’s religion, even though he is considered a performer, had ruled him out of the race for the vice presidential slot.

He said, “You know that the South-West is a base for the APC and it also contributed immensely to its formation.

We would have preferred Fashola because of his pedigree in the state. 

Moreover, of all the APC governors from the zone, he is the only one doing his second term.

“But this issue of religion is the problem. Apart from this, other APC governors from the zone are also Muslims.

You may need to recall that the enemies of our party tried in vain before to label the party a Muslim party.

“Even though they have failed, we may also need to be guided by the words of advice from former President Olusegun Obasanjo against any party fielding same religion ticket.

This is what is hampering us concerning Fashola, whose performance and competence cannot be queried.”

He said since it was almost certain that the party would field a Muslim as its presidential candidate, it would therefore be out of place to field another Muslim [Babatunde Fashola] as the running mate.

Apart from General Muhammadu Buhari, the party also has three other known presidential aspirants.

They are a former VP Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwakwanso; and a newspaper publisher, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah.

Out of them, only Nda-Isaiah is a Christian.

The source said that though Fashola remained the best candidate for the position, he however regretted that the issue of religion would deny the party and the country the chance of fielding the governor.

“South-West are not religious but we are dealing with a larger society now. So, we must be careful.”

Buhari Is No Match For Jonathan, He’ll Be Defeated – Ex Anambra Gov “Ezeife”

Ahead of the 2015 presidential election, ex-Anambra State governor, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, has said that Buhari, the leading aspirant on the platform of APC, is no match for President Goodluck Jonathan.

Ezeife said he was certain that the President would defeat Buhari in 2015 with a wider margin than he did in 2011 – if the retired general emerges the presidential candidate of the APC.

In his words, “Jonathan appears to be a tool in the hands of God. God does everything with a purpose and it doesn’t appear God has finished with Jonathan.

Others can contest for the Presidency, at least, that will make money to flow around to poor people.

There will be no change in Aso Rock after the 2015 presidential election.

“There will be no contest. Buhari is no match for Jonathan. This is a clear case…

“Look at how Ebola ended in Nigeria. They are still battling with it in America. Look at the level of development that is going on.

The man (Jonathan) always acts as if he doesn’t know what he is doing but he will be doing everything right.

“Now we are talking about ceasefire with Boko Haram.

Those who said they would make Nigeria ungovernable have failed.

Nigeria is still governable and Jonathan is governing it.”

Ezeife, who spoke to PUNCH, added that none of the presidential aspirants on the platform of the APC can defeat the President in 2015, and added that Jonathan had divine backing.

Jonathan has already been adopted as the presidential candidate of the PDP while Buhari, who was the first runner-up in the 2011 presidential election, is the top contender for the APC’s presidential ticket.
